THP Strength Standards
What's up, everybody? Welcome to the THB Strength podcast headed by these handsome gentlemen right here who all have 40 plus inch verticals. And today, we're gonna be talking about how strong exactly do you have to be to have a 40 plus inch vertical and beyond, even into the 50 inch range, even into the sixty and seventy inch range if you're an animal. But before we get into that, first, I wanna give a big shout out to our sponsors. They are the reason that this podcast even exists and that we can do this every day.
Isaiah:They are the best vertical jump trainers on the planet over at thpstrength.com. So if you wanna jump higher, get healthier, go over there, and they will help you out. So thank you, guys.
Austin:You you know what we should do? What? We should give them a discount.
Isaiah:No way, man.
Austin:No. I know. I know. No way. I I I You're tripping.
Austin:How how no. I'm not.
Isaiah:I am Our sponsors might be really upset. I
Austin:don't know.
Isaiah:We're gonna get a bunch
John:of one and dones. It's a terrible idea.
Austin:That will about 10% off your first month with the coach code THP? If you're weary
John:Alright. I'll allow it.
Austin:Alright. Like, you know, you try it out. You've been listening to us for a while, and you have no you know, you're just sitting there playing Helldivers two and you're Helldivers? Yeah. Just Helldivers two and you're like, damn it, I wanna jump higher, but I'm afraid.
Austin:I am not ready. You know, use code THP at checkout for 10% off your first month. Your neck beard will thank you.
Isaiah:Careful now, have a neck beard now. Oh, geez. Yeah, you do have a neck
Austin:beard. You don't have a neck beard.
Isaiah:My gaming prowess has increased by 10%. Aim
Austin:down speed and Call of Duty has went up.
John:Funny thing is is the funny thing is is you play a ton of Call of Duty and you were a closet neck beard. Yeah. Admit it.
Austin:I was raised by neck beard.
Isaiah:You know what's crazy? I played Fortnite yesterday for the first time in weeks and I almost won. I think it's my neck beard.
John:No. No. It's because you're playing Scrubs.
Isaiah:I was playing on my wife's account.
Austin:You know, it's
John:horrible. It's crazy. TG doesn't lose it. We're fine.
Austin:My fiance was using my Call of Duty account.
John:So now you play Scrubs?
Austin:Well, I came back and I had like 80 something kills. I'm like,
Isaiah:oh my god. The matchmaking.
Austin:And then all of a sudden, no, it's back to normal.
Isaiah:That's why I let my roommate play because yeah.
John:Shout out, David. Okay. Yeah. We'll go with that.
Isaiah:Alright. So let's get into the topic. I guess the best place to start is state your verticals off one and two feet. And then and then
John:your
Isaiah:squat, deadlift, power clean. Well, I'm missing one.
John:Calf raise? Deadlift. You said deadlift. You said
Isaiah:deadlift squat.
John:Power
Isaiah:clean. Front squat, back squat, deadlift, power clean. And your bench press. Okay. All time?
Isaiah:Yeah.
John:All Alright. Alright. Alright. So we'll go in order of lowest to highest verticals. And since I have the lowest vertical, I'll go first.
John:So my one foot vertical is probably all time 42 ish, give or take. Right? We'll say 41 and a half. It changes all the time. It's between 39 and a half and 43.
John:And my two foot vertical, I think the highest I've ever touched is 36, maybe? Thirty seven? Thirty six?
Isaiah:I think 36. Yeah. If I mean, you you have you windmill? You backroomed the windmill?
John:I've backroomed
Isaiah:the windmill. So you probably were around 11 foot touch.
John:I don't know about that.
Isaiah:That's pretty aggressive. Ten ten?
John:Ten ten, I think I could tell
Isaiah:Ten ten? Yeah. So, yeah, probably thirty thirty five to 37.
John:Okay. 35 to 37. And my best power clean ever is two fifty five from the blocks. From the floor is two forty five. But I can go and pull from the blocks now these days.
John:My best back squat ever deep is a hundred and fifty five kilos. So what is that? Is that like three fifty?
Austin:Know such measurements.
John:Hold on. Let me see. One fifty five.
Isaiah:If you're a metric system person, like if you're from ninety percent forty one. World, just divide by 2.2.
Austin:Yeah. Oh, is that how?
John:Yeah. That's how it works. Three forty one and my and that was deep. That was a deep squat as deep as I could possibly go. And then my deadlift, I've never really tested, but I've RDL'd three eighty five for one and a half.
John:I think I'm just shy of four zero five. And my what was the other metric we wanted? Power snatch?
Isaiah:Front squat and bench.
John:Front squat? Yes. Front squat, I don't know. I don't think I've ever maxed it. Yeah.
John:I don't really have a front squat metric. My I know I've done I've done two forty five, two fifty five for reps, so probably a hair under 300. And then bench press, the best I've ever done is two twenty five. And I've done weighted pull ups at 90 plus pounds.
Austin:Oh, we're adding a weighted pull up?
John:That's the only one I'm good at,
Austin:so You're great.
John:And my calf raise is over. My calf raise is, like, infinite. As much weight as I've ever seen anyone do in calf raise. That's basically my calf raise.
Austin:Hi. I'm I'm Austin Burke. I've been sober for no. I'm just kidding. So my highest recorded vertical off one foot was 46 inches.
Austin:And if I hear anyone or read any comments about how I cannot dunk on nine my vertical it was my highest vertical ever. Okay? Right now it's like 43, I would say off one. It's getting back. My two foot was forty three point five measured.
Austin:And now we're go through the the gauntlet of lifts. My bench, the most important lift, I had a max of two sixty five when I was in high school.
Isaiah:Oh, I'm gonna cut you off real quick. Our body weight.
Austin:Oh. Here. Hop back in real quick.
John:When I hit those metrics, was around one seventy five to one seventy eight. The heaviest I am is usually one eighty three. But when I hit all those numbers, I was one seventy eight.
Isaiah:And how tall are you? A five eleven and half barefoot. And what's your standing reach?
John:Seven eleven. Seven eleven.
Isaiah:Know I know all of you guys are interested in this. This is information I wish I knew about every jumper.
John:Yeah. Alright. Your turn. Alright. My body fat percentage is the lowest ever been at 7.8%.
John:I'm typically walking around about 11% right now. So there you go.
Austin:Okay. Let me redo this. I'm five foot nine. What's God. Your
John:My dick girth? Yeah.
Isaiah:Girth and length. What is it? I don't have either. We're gonna see if there's a correlation.
Austin:Alright. Alright. So do we say our shoe size too?
Isaiah:Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Does that does affect vertical Okay.
Austin:So John wears what? Twelve and a half?
John:Twelve to twelve and a
Austin:So I'll talk about twelve to twelve and a half. All right. I'm five nine without shoes. My shoe size is ten and a half. My standing reach is seven five ish.
Austin:There's so many things. My bench was two sixty five in high school all the time. I could barely do two twenty five now. Average body weight is around one hundred sixty to one hundred sixty five depending on the time of year and my mental state. And my power clean max is two fifty five.
Austin:My squat is what, like, some but I don't deep squat. So I would say just my
Isaiah:Third squat?
Austin:Third my third squat? Low? Just above the parallel. It's probably four I think it was four I did four zero five for two. Front squat, I don't I don't have a max for that.
Austin:Definitely broken the three hundreds. Deadlift, I think, is closer to four twenty five, four thirty.
Isaiah:What was
John:your power plan again? Two
Isaiah:fifty five?
Austin:Two fifty five off the floor.
John:What from the blocks is it?
Austin:Probably the same. Sure about that? I think my first time I maxed two fifty five was off the blocks, off the pads. I'll do whatever you tell. I'll don't I need comp, man.
Austin:I'll go for it. Alright. And then
Isaiah:what exceptional strength is high.
Austin:Yeah. Alright. What else what else? Gear. He has another gear.
Austin:My my weighted pull ups, can do some like 100 something. I don't know. I'm I have pretty good pull up strength. Do we is that every lift?
John:That's as many as you could think of.
Austin:My calf raise is two cars to
John:It used to be really bad. Oh, it used to be really good. Then it's really bad. Now it's really good again.
Austin:It's two Durangos with someone overweight and longer,
John:mine or yours?
Austin:Probably yours.
John:You think so? Yeah. At the moment? Maybe. But it's close.
Austin:I don't know. Yeah. My my my Your tibrees. My tibi Two tibrees. I could do 704 tibi raises consecutively.
Isaiah:Excellent. Success leaves clues.
John:If I stood on his feet, he could actually lift me off the ground.
Austin:Also have really strong can we
Isaiah:try this?
Austin:Yeah. Go for it.
John:Austin can actually lift me off the ground with his tips.
Austin:Can I actually?
John:No. Absolutely not.
Austin:I can actually That's the
Isaiah:only way you actually have tip strength is
John:you can lift someone off the ground with just your tibia.
Austin:I can hang.
Isaiah:I I'll try
John:it real quick.
Austin:Oh, I thought you wonder I I can actually hang from a pull up bar upside down by my feet.
Isaiah:Yeah. Don't I don't care anymore. This is material objects.
Austin:Me and John have a background in tap dancing and choreographed dance. I think I can lift you up, bro.
John:No way.
Isaiah:Never mind.
John:I literally was like, there's no
Austin:Do you want do you wanna try a lighter load? Do want me to hop on?
Isaiah:No. No. I just realized my tits are really weak. Success
John:doesn't leave clues. I think that's Alright.
Isaiah:Did you say on the list?
Austin:I think so.
Isaiah:Yeah. Yeah.
Austin:That's fine. I have a predisposition to asthma.
John:Alright. Alright. I have asthma. Oh. Success leaps clues.
John:You need asthma if you wanna jump higher. I
Isaiah:am six one and a half without shoes. First thing in the morning
John:without shoes. People didn't believe that I was shorter than you.
Isaiah:People were like, no. Not. No way. Yeah. That's first thing in the morning.
Isaiah:I tend to shrink down to about six one later in the evening. I have a standing reach of eight foot one in Kobe sixes first thing in the morning.
John:Don't you've never hit eight one and a half?
Isaiah:I've hit eight one and a half in the Kobe a d's.
John:What do you use for your reach with vertical?
Isaiah:The Kobe's.
John:The Kobe's?
Isaiah:Yeah. I actually remeasured recently just to double check. It was eight one. Eight Eight one.
John:Yeah. Nice. You know, two they say
Isaiah:two inches. That's dropping the shoulder. It is. Exhaling. Deep breath.
Isaiah:Reach as hard as you can. Wingspan, six six.
John:How thick are your fingers?
Isaiah:Yeah. Really they're actually really thick. I have thick fingers.
Austin:I like your sight. Like
John:Yeah. What's your sight?
Isaiah:Used to have twenty twenty. It's getting worse now, though. Ah. Actually, I had better than twenty twenty in high school. So you're probably twenty twenty.
Isaiah:I was, like, 20 I think 16 or something. And then it or twenty thirteen, and then it's definitely worse now.
Austin:BS, don't you?
Isaiah:I do. Let's see what other ones. I fluctuate between a hundred and eighty one pounds and a hundred and eighty four pounds first thing in the morning after taking a dump. I've seen him weigh one
John:eighty eight.
Austin:You're famous. You don't poop.
John:Yeah. But that was after eating a lot. I still I've seen it. It exists.
Isaiah:Okay. Lift. Oh, and my body fat percentage really low. Like, five? Yeah.
Isaiah:I've tested in a was it a DEXA or a Bod Pod?
John:No. You you did an underwater Wayne.
Isaiah:No. It wasn't underwater.
John:You didn't do an
Isaiah:underwater Wayne? Did underwater Wayne. It was the one where you look it I feel like I was in Dragon Ball Z. That's a Bod Pod. Yeah.
Isaiah:Yeah. Bod Pod. Bod Pod is set three percent. Not lying. I have the screenshots.
John:There's like one to 2% error on that, but, yeah, that's probably close to You're a percent body fat? Yeah. Right now? Yeah. You're probably like under 10.
Austin:Really?
John:Yeah. I think so.
Austin:Skinny queen.
John:Yeah. You're definitely under 10. I mean, when you're a lean lean, you're probably like seven and a half.
Austin:I'm about to just fast until I don't
John:eat anything. To win this windmill battle, I'm just not gonna eat for
Austin:a That's
Isaiah:by the way, John is in a windmill battle.
Austin:He's some Ozempic.
Isaiah:Right now, in the windmill battle.
John:No. No. Andy, my girlfriend brought this up the other day. Ozempic? Yeah.
John:Her mom her
Isaiah:mother's taking it. Quick shout out to our athletes that are in the windmill battle. See if they can beat John to the first windmill on at least nine ten. Joshua Bell, Harissa Akela, Ethan Howe, Akash, Dan Ochinbell, Mark Kinzer, Naved Asgar, Dylan Dion, Tomasso, and then we had a couple of people. Tommy Bowden's joining in.
Isaiah:Nathaniel Machesa is joining in. Levi Tingey's joining in. Samuel Wong is joining in.
John:Chad No. Don't do that.
Isaiah:Steph George. Wait. Alright. So those are all all the guys that are currently almost windmilling, about to.
John:Okay. I I think in in order of hierarchy, Bowden should easily be able to windmill off the dribble right now. No questions asked. And then I would say Ethan is probably has the bounce to easily do it, but his technique is kinda whack.
Isaiah:Yeah.
John:And then Josh is a loser. He'll never win. I'm I'm probably middle of the pack, honestly, in reality. I'm probably, like, four weeks away from windmilling Yeah. I think on 09:10.
John:And then but I'm gonna see how high I can windmill. Do have
Isaiah:me as a secret weapon for tech secret weapon.
Austin:In Austin.
Isaiah:That's it. In Austin.
John:No more tips on windmills to any of my athletes. He'll he'll
Isaiah:be like, and the winner and the winner?
John:Hands and go in a circular motion really, really wide. And then you wanna and then what you wanna do is keep your hand cuffed as much as possible.
Isaiah:And the winner's gonna get free THP gear.
Austin:Three shirts.
Isaiah:I can't wait. Know you how
Austin:many more than that?
Isaiah:I want John to win. That way we don't that way we don't go broke. It's our last dollars on the street. Wait.
John:Alright. We should say our Wait. Did you say all your numbers? Haven't I haven't
Isaiah:even started. What your numbers?
John:What are your numbers?
Isaiah:That's my anthropometry ADHD mother bleepers.
John:Yeah. A bleeper. Yeah. I don't wanna get you demonetized.
Isaiah:Oh, no. It's not demonetization technically. It's just certain advertisers won't put their ads on your videos. Yeah. And I need to feed my daughter.
John:Okay. Alright. Go ahead.
Isaiah:Go ahead. Okay. My numbers, all time deep back squat is four zero five. I could probably do four twenty five to four thirty five around there now. All time half squat, just above parallel, 500 pounds on the dot.
Isaiah:All time deep front squat, 385 pounds, all time power clean, 315.
John:Did you say your vertical?
Isaiah:My vertical is 50.5 inches. Off two? What is it? Off two feet, off one. I've officially tested a 40 off my left leg and right leg.
John:You did off both?
Isaiah:Yeah. That's crazy. Right left vertical, 47 inches.
John:Did you know that there's no one else with a 40 inch vertical off all that can dunk off all four plants? Did you know that?
Isaiah:Success leaves clues, baby.
John:He's so handsome. And then Can you
Isaiah:do a Nordic?
John:A strict Nordic?
Isaiah:Nope. I'm not even close.
Austin:Can you do a split squat?
John:What is the I don't even know what
Isaiah:to do. I can. Don't. Don't. I'm trying to think which one is easy.
John:I wish it hurts your back.
Austin:Wow.
John:Oh, the heel came up. Damn it.
Isaiah:Don't know
John:if it counts.
Isaiah:Alright. And then what did I power snatch? A muscle two twenty five?
John:No. I don't think you oh, maybe you did.
Isaiah:Yeah. I think I did.
Austin:You did recently buy
Isaiah:I've done two twenty five power snatch, I think.
Austin:You did recently bicep curl one fifty five?
Isaiah:With momentum. With momentum. Oh my god. All time bench, two fifty five. Like, are these goofballs doing?
Isaiah:Feeding Marty. I think those are all the numbers. Did I miss anything? I've hang clean two ninety five or 300. I think it might have been 300 actually.
Isaiah:I hang clean. What's your RDL? RDL, I've done four zero five for many reps. Hip thrust, six six six. My hip thrust.
Isaiah:I'm not that's not a joke. That is not a joke.
John:I think where Isaiah couple.
Isaiah:I okay. Might be in the seven hundreds, actually. So where Isaiah I did six six six for reps for five reps.
John:I think where Isaiah dwarfs us is he definitely his hip thrust is on a different level. I'm good at it, but you definitely are way better than me at that. I think that your power clean and squat are significantly better than Austin and I. And specifically, like, your ability to deep squat heavy because Austin and And
Isaiah:I'm poorly leveraged for squatting.
John:Yeah. And anthropometrically, he's not supposed to be good at it, and he is anyways. Austin and I skimmers. Austin and I can't deep squat, so that that kinda takes us out of the equation. But even in leg extension, he he dwarfs us.
John:He he murks us in that one.
Isaiah:Puny people.
Austin:I wanna I wanna take a moment to talk back about the windmill tournament. I I wanna talk about my sleeper.
John:Yours don't
Isaiah:you There is no tournament.
Austin:You're on I'm not in I'm not in it. I'm taking my picks. I think we should do betting. We should do illegal sports betting on school? Yeah.
Austin:Alright. Alright. I think Mark Kinzer is a sleeper, but what's gonna get him screwed is going to be the fact that he cannot rest. He's neurotic about continuing to go even through injury, but I do think he has the mental capacity tenacity tenacity to to do really well. And wait, is Akash in it?
Isaiah:I'm gonna do
Austin:Akash it right is in it? Okay. And Akash. Because I'm I'm teaching him the cuff right now.
John:Driveway. I'm doing it right now.
Isaiah:Yeah. I think Akash is a big sleeper as well.
John:No. Akash is yeah. He could easily do it too. He jumps
Isaiah:He's I was I was I was telling Austin this the other day. I think Akash is getting to that skill level where you start becoming a dunker. Yeah. Like, where you have fun in group sessions and you hit new dunks and stuff like that. Definitely.
Isaiah:Alright. Alright. I think that's a good spot to end it.
Austin:How was that?
John:Yeah. I'm fine
Isaiah:with that. Just our numbers. How strong do
John:you have
Isaiah:to be?
John:Relative times body weight, I mean, can't figure it out.
Isaiah:But Having said that, give a one minute spiel on why strength isn't everything. Why? Because power lifters have higher relative strength numbers. You wanna give us feel?
John:Alright. So a one minute ish feel? You only give me one minute? I think you'll, like, collect my thoughts. Wait.
John:Wait. Wait. Restart. Restart. Stop.
John:Stop the timer. Are you doing alright, so?
Isaiah:Yeah. Alright.
John:One minute on strength.
Isaiah:Alright. Ready? Three, two, one. Strength is
John:not everything because it is just a metric of the absolute amount of force that you can produce irrespective of time. So if you're gonna look at power or speed or any of these other metrics, those are respective of time, and those will dictate what the impulse will be on the ground when you jump, and thus how much momentum you will have when you leave the ground, and thus what your vertical is. So you could be insanely strong and really bad at producing force quickly, thus you won't be able to jump high or run fast. I feel like that's really all I need. Yeah.
Austin:Wait. Top three movies?
Isaiah:You you have one thing that's a constraint, and it's time, baby.
John:Time matters. Yep.
Isaiah:Top three movies? Yeah. My favorite movies?
John:Building relationships. That's that's for
Isaiah:I have to think about this. Yeah. We'll do that another topic.
John:Godzilla, Godzilla, Godzilla.
Austin:You have to end it with something like that.
Isaiah:We're building relationships. If you're on YouTube, please like the video. If you're on a podcast platform, give it five stars. It helps push the podcast out, and the more views it gets, it becomes pretty motivating for us. It's fun to see the the views grow.
Isaiah:And like always, if you wanna get coached by the three of us to jump higher personally, go to thpstrength.com. Peace out, guys. Red red button. Oh, yeah. Use the code THP.
Isaiah:10%
John:off
Isaiah:your first month.
